The town of Castelfranco Veneto is characterised by its imposing medieval walls decorated with eighteenth-century statues representing Giorgione, an artist who made this small town famous all over the world.
Inside the walls there are many medieval houses and the Cathedral, eighteenth-century projects by Francesco Maria Preti where the greatest work by Giorgione are preserved: the famous “Madonna enthroned”: this is one of the most beautiful altar tables of the 1500 Italian. Other projects are by “Jacopo da Bassano”, “Palma the younger”, “Annibale Carracci” and “Paolo Veronese”.
